We have seen a rise in the number of calls to our helpline from people struggling make debt repayments following the loss of a spouse, partner or parent.

For instant, free debt advice, use CCCS Debt Remedy to find out the best solution for your situation

Joint liability

Bereavement is a difficult enough issue to deal with on its own, but unfortunately surviving partners are often left to deal with any joint debts, along with the financial implications of a loss of income from the deceased.

In many cases, maintaining repayments on the joint debts has been dependent on the income of the person who has died.

Protect those close to you from the extra heartache of crippling debt repayments in the event of bereavement. Always make sure you and your family fully understand the terms of any credit agreements you make.

If the worst happens

In the event of a bereavement, do try to remember to contact your creditors as soon as you can to tell them about your change in circumstances. In most cases they will be sympathetic.

CCCS are here to help. If your debts are getting on top of you, we can give you free, transparent and impartial debt advice.
