Debt advice for men

There has been a massive increase in the number of men seeking debt advice in the last three years.

This is due to a combination of factors – rising unemployment, a slower rate of salary increases and rising household expenditure.

For instant, free debt advice, use CCCS Debt Remedy to find out the best solution for your situation

Our quarterly Debt Dashboard, published in June 2010, showed that on average men had falling debt levels and higher salaries in comparison to women. However, men were less able to repay their debts, while an increasing proportion lacked the means to meet basic living costs.

The Facts

  • The number of men contacting CCCS for debt advice has increased by 51% since 2007.
  • Almost half (48.05%) attribute the cause of their debt to reduced income, including redundancy or unemployment.
  • Men’s debt levels are dropping, from an average of £30,000 in 2007-08 to £26,957 in 2009.
  • Despite this, the average male CCCS client in 2009 had a negative surplus of minus £42.
