As part of our service, we have produced our Guide to Debt Management Plans to explain what a debt management plan (DMP) is, what the process involves, how it might help your situation and, if so, what you should do.

DMPs aren't suitable for everyone with debt problems, but our debt management guide also includes details on some of the other debt solutions available.

Debt management plans - the basics

A debt management plan is an informal arrangement with creditors that allows you to make reduced payments to help you through times of financial difficulty.

You can organise a debt management plan yourself, or you can request the help of a third party who will act on your behalf as an intermediary between you and your creditors.

Free DMPs

There are numerous organisations that can arrange debt management plans. Although some of these are profit-making companies who charge a fee, we provide debt management plans completely free of charge.

So with a CCCS debt management plan, all your payments go towards reducing your debts and don’t add to your expenses. This means your debts will be paid off quicker.

Another advantage of using a trusted debt charity such as CCCS is that creditors are more likely to accept a plan organised by us. In many cases, creditors reduce or freeze interest or other charges on your debt (although they are not obliged to do this).

CCCS debt management plans - what we do

We look into your finances and help you draw up your budget. If you have money left over once all your living expenses have been accounted for, then that can be divided between each of your creditors in monthly instalments.

We deal with your creditors on your behalf, and once the plan is agreed, you pay the monthly total to us via Direct Debit. We then divide the money between your creditors.

We send you a monthly statement showing how much has been paid towards each of your debts, and provide online access to allow you to manage your plan and view your statement 24 hours a day.
