The Insolvency Register contains details of all current bankruptcies in England and Wales and all bankruptcies that have ended within the last 3 months. It also lists current IVAs and debt relief orders.

Your confidentiality

The Insolvency Register is available to search online and searches are free of charge. This means that if you have been made bankrupt, your privacy can be affected. However, the only people likely to conduct a bankruptcy search on you are creditors.

It is unlikely that your bankruptcy will be advertised in your local newspaper. However, the official receiver is obliged to tell those people who need to know about your bankruptcy. These people include your creditors, mortgage lender and the bank where you have your current account. The official receiver may choose to tell other people if they feel it is necessary.
