Your development
We know that it is our people and their skills that bring success to our charity. We place a lot of focus on providing our employees with the knowledge and skills needed to give the very best service to our clients.
Induction
Our charity induction has been designed to give you the best possible start to your career. Welcoming you into the organisation is a high priority for us, as well as a clear explanation of how we work and where your role fits in. As a charity, we place a great deal of emphasis on our ethos and how you will be helping people and making a difference to people’s lives.
Training
Every new employee attends our ‘Dealing with Debt’ course, which will give you a clear insight into the common causes of debt, budgeting advice and effective solutions.
For operational roles your first few weeks will be spent on one of our dedicated training academies. Here you will learn everything about your role from debt advice to our internal computer systems and processes.
Ongoing Development
Our policy is for every employee to have access to ongoing training and development, enabling you to develop your individual skills and knowledge.
Once in your role, you will have access to a comprehensive directory of training courses which can be booked via your line manager, ensuring you can continue to develop at your own pace, to the best of your potential.
We also have an assisted study scheme which could further help your development through achieving relevant professional qualifications with colleges, universities and other institutions.
Frequently asked questions about Training
What can I expect from my training programme?
Which department you join will determine the length of your training. If your role involves taking calls from clients, we want to make sure you’re as comfortable and confident as possible before you start. Your development will then continue throughout your time with us.
During your first week of training you will have the opportunity to meet your team leader and the manager of the department you are joining. You will also gain experience of the types of calls you might take by listening to live calls in your department.
We appreciate that people learn at different speeds and in different ways, so there will be lots of opportunity for practice time, group and individual quizzes and role plays.
What kind of support can I expect?
Every training programme has a dedicated trainer and call coaches. All of our training is designed to be interactive in order to support individual learning styles.
You will receive regular one to one development meetings where you can review your progress and discuss any areas where you need further support.
What hours will I be working during training?
All our training is full time Monday to Friday. Exact hours will vary depending on the department you are joining. For daytime shifts the training hours are generally 9:30am to 4:30pm. For evening shifts the hours are generally 12:00noon to 7:00pm. As these times can vary, your exact hours will be confirmed to you prior to your start date.
I’m nervous as I have never given debt advice before and don’t know much about the subject. Will this affect my ability to do the job?
There is no need to worry. Our training is extensive and designed to start with the basics and build from there. First and foremost we are looking for people with great communication skills and the ability to treat our clients in a caring, non-judgemental way. We’re confident that if you’re right for the job and work hard during your training, everything else will fall into place.
