Credit after bankruptcy

Declaring yourself bankrupt will affect your credit rating for 6 years from the date you go bankrupt.

Although bankruptcy usually lasts for one year, your bankruptcy will remain on your credit file for 6 years from the day you go bankrupt. It will therefore be more difficult for you to apply for credit during this period.

You should also bear in mind that during your bankruptcy period you cannot borrow over £500 without declaring your circumstances to the lender.
